Kahr does offer several models with an external thumb safety and/or loaded-chamber indicator so as to be able to sell their products in states that require such devices.īreech locking is accomplished via the barrel hood bearing on the front edge of the ejection port. There is also an absence of external safety devices on almost all Kahr pistols, which gives them a snag-free exterior, a very nice feature for a concealed-carry pistol. Kahr offers the customer a choice of a metal or polymer frame on their pistols. The triggers on the Kahr pistols I have fired were all smooth, relatively light and stage free. The smooth, light and stage-free stroke is accomplished by means of a system in which a trigger stroke of approximately 0.7 inches rotates a cam that unlocks the spring-loaded striker safety, drawing the striker to full-cock position before releasing it to fire a cartridge. I feel that the DAO trigger on Kahr pistols is one of the primary reasons for their popularity. I rely on the FACT that my Glock nor Kahrs will discharge until I ask them to with my trigger finger. In my opinion, some of the most user friendly of the double-action-only (DAO) pistols on today’s market are made by the Kahr Arms. I want to now if there has ever been a truthful report of a DAO trigger safety style pistol such as Glock, Kahr, and other modern polymer pistols with no external safety discharging while being carried in a proper holster that completely covers the trigger. Since I cannot do the same I am safer carrying my DAO pistol(s) ready to fire. Some of you who choose to carry without one in the pipe might argue that you can draw/rack/fire as quickly as some of us who only need draw/fire and that might be true. I want to be able to open a door, toss a table on its side if necessary, throw my son to the ground while drawing and opening fire, etc.
I want my free hand to be just that - free. Had he not NEEDED his otherwise free left hand to chamber a round to even open fire he might have avoided being shot any additional times. I can only assume he is killed by the number of round he absorbed. He tries in vein to chamber the first round and is subsequently shot repeatedly (now he's drawn a weapon and guaranteed to be killed as to eliminate him as a deadly threat) and beaten. One of those disturbing videos shows a jewelry store clerk unable to chamber the first round after taking a shot to his left arm/hand. I've seen a few videos now where an attacker just so happened to shoot an armed person in his left hand/arm, and then the person drawing his weapon to defend his own life cannot even rack the slide to chamber that first round. Not to mention I'm down an extra chance (a round) to hit my attacker. I do not want that extra thought process, time taken, or even the assumption that I'll have a free hand needed to chamber that first round.
those who do not.Īll I know is that I'm already probably going to be at a disadvantage if I'm forced to even draw my firearm because a threat is upon me. I read an in-depth topic that got pretty heated with those who chose to carry without a round in the chamber vs. Oh and in regards to carrying with an empty chamber: I'm not ridiculing you for being critical of Kahr Arms - it just seems like your mind is already made up.
You'd find this much safer than trying to manipulate a Kahr into doing the same. My Glock has always been very quick and easy to chamber the first round by simply hand racking the slide. You might even want to consider their only single stack pistol, the G36 model in. Mokumbear, might I suggest something from Glock? Take your pick from their "baby" Glocks chambered in 9mm luger. Mokumbear in another topic has already listed reasons why he doesn't like Kahr, and this sounds like yet again an attempt at trying to convince himself that he doesn't want a Kahr Arms pistol. Trying to even chamber the first round quickly by racking the slide usually results in the slide locking back anyways.
The only guaranteed way to chamber the first round and also to insure that the Kahr is in full battery is to lock the slide open, insert a magazine, and then release the slide using the slide release lever. Look I'm as a huge of a Kahr Arms fan as anyone, but if Mokumbear insists upon carrying with an empty chamber then he needs to buy something other than Kahr Arms pistols. The heart of the matter is that Mokumbear doesn't want to carry ANY semi auto pistol with a round in the chamber.
